Hi all

We have a slightly damp Victorian wall drying out and need to re-plaster internally. Current gypsum plaster is ruined, so am going to re-plaster with lime plaster which will aid drying (we don't have several months to wait while it fully dries alas!).

The question is: once all the current plaster is removed and we're back to brickwork, should I be applying a bonding agent before first coat plastering (e.g. diluted SBR which is breathable unlike PVA) ? Or should the new plaster go straight onto the exposed bricks?

Any advice will be much appreciated as I'm about to start the job this weekend!

Thanks

What do you mean by "lime plaster"?
Typically, its best not to plaster or render on a damp wall.
Why was the wall damp in the first place?

A remedial mix is 3:1 or 4:1 sand and NH lime - a slurry of sand and lime can be used as a scratch coat or a very tight scratch coat of the full mix.
