As for senders, they do work after a fashion. In broad terms the picture quality is about on par with running an aerial cable from the RF out of a VCR/ Sky box / DVD Recorder.

Senders fall in to two categories for the transmission frequency they use. There is 2.4GHz. These are the cheaper senders. 2.4GHz has been in use for a long time. There's a lot of competition for space in this band. Pretty much every other wireless device uses this frequency too. Baby monitors, cordless phones, wireless cameras, BlueTooth devices and your wireless router all jostle for space. Then there's what happens when you switch on a microwave. They dump a load of interference in to the 2.4GHz band. Remember too that if you can pick up the presence of your neighbours wireless networks on you home computer then those same frequencies are overlapping with the 2.4GHz devices in your home as well.

The saturation of the 2.4GHz band is why we now have 5.8GHz devices. These are less prone to interference. The trade-off is range. The higher the frequency then the shorter the transmission range. If you are sending a signal to an adjacent room then that's not so much of an issue. Trying to send the same signal to the other end of the house it's a different story.

While on the subject of transmissions, the structure of your house can block or hinder transmissions. Foil lined insulation boards, metal framing in partition walls and steel radiators are all good ways to cripple wireless transmissions. Equally though, simply travelling through walls and floors diminishes the power of the radio frequency transmissions from these wireless video senders. This is why you have to take any product recommendations with a pinch of salt. What works for one person in their home, with their devices and the devices of their neighbours competing for space might not work for you. 5.8GHz is a little more money, but it might be worth it to you if you have a lot of wireless products already in use.

The final choice to make is about remote control. Some senders will relay your remote control signal back to the device you are transmitting from.
