Vivaro rear door

Rear door latch rusted, freed it up with wd40 but it’s not catching/locking. Is this connected to a cable from the handle in the pic?

It's a short distance so probably a rod connects the two......when you lift the handle, can you feel any resistance?

Take the internal door trim off and have a look

No real resistance but not sure if the handle locks top and bottom latch. I’ll take the panel off when I get a spare couple of hours. Cheers.
