we have one of these boilers in our house, the pilot light keeps going out when it is in c/h mode because of this we cannot get any heating, this is the first problem we have had with it and it only started yesterday. any ideas?

Sounds a boring answer, but when was it last properly serviced?

Could be that i just needs a good clean.

Other than that, is it going to overheat before it cuts out?

Is the HW ok?
Does the pilot go out as soon as you turn the heating on or after it's been on for a period of time (roughly how long)?

The problem is likely to be gas or combustion related which means a competent gas registered engineer will probably be required.

It sounds as if you have not bothered to get the boiler properly serviced.

On permanent pilot boilers the fan is turning constantly and that picks up a lot of dirt which means that they need proper cleaning regularly such as an annual service.

Bearing in mind that I am mainly an installer and only do occasional servicing and breakdown so don't have day to day contact with FF standing pilot light boilers. I thought the fan would only operate under a demand.

A few boilers with pilot lights, have the fan turning very slowly when there is no demand. As soon as there is a demand the fan goes to full speed.

Water heaters, such as the Britony Flexiflue, also have this feature.

Thanks. I assume the thermo couple must provide power to the fan for this or is it by means of a relay?

Now you're getting too technical for me

I have always assumed a relay, definately is on the flexiflue, in its expensive ciruit board.

I can only advise reading the MI's thoroughly if you come across one. I have to each time.
