Hello,

I'm wondering if anyone can help? I have had an on-going problem with my vokera boiler for some time, but i've just kept putting off fixing it.

When ever i run the hot water the boiler heats it up for a good 5-8 mins and then just shuts down, bringing about a warning light. If i let it cool down for 15-20 mins it will allow me again to use hot water for the same time.

I have had a plumber look at this and he says that i need a new thermistor, but having read some similiar forum posts and being slightly sceptical and worried about paying for something that isn't needed i thought i'd look for a second opinion.

has anyone encountered the same problem with this type of boiler and what course of action do you recommend is required?

many thanks.

flash code 04 - which the manual tells me is "insufficient water pressure or poor flow in system." the pressure gauge reading which is just over 1mbar which i think is sufficient. Its says to check for sufficient primary water movement or correct operation of flow switch. Can anyone elaborate and perhaps diagnose?

Many thanks for the replies.

does your boiler have the flow switch or the pressure switch? they changed it at some point during its run.

The way that I interpret this situation is that the plumber came and told you what was wrong expecting you to get him to compelete the repair for him.

However, you did not pay him for his time and experience. That to me is wrong.

He would have replaced the thermistor and then found that it was not the fault and it would have been interesting to see what happened then.

I am not happy that you apparently did not pay him as you were not to know that he had probably misdiagnosed the fault.

DIY it.

Turn off mains water, remove flow restictor/filter and clean it. hey presto

It is known as 'try this part and see' and 'if that does not work, try another part'

For effective repairs, one has to reason why the appliance fails to work as intended. Fitting part blindly is silly and expensive.

Its a flow switch boiler.

Having looked at the manual and on the t'interweb am i right in thinking the filter/restrictor is on the inlet to the heat exchanger? Many thanks for the advice but I am afraid i aint au fait when it comes to tinkering with boilers so forgive me for not wanting to just dive in and clean the filter. Some help with this would be greatly appreciated or alternatively is it just worth me hanging fire and waiting till next week when the plumber comes???

Tony - didn't mean to get you riled...when i said i had a plumber look at this i meant he was doing some other work in my house and literally just 'looked' at it, didn't do no work and then gave me his best guess suggestion - a new thermistor. He got paid - i got a radiator fitted and i booked him in for next week to fix the boiler...jobs a good 'un.

many thanks all.
