my pilot wont light I had a british gas guy here and he said its the heat exchanger How easy is it to fit this myself?

Unless the heat exch is leaking water it should not prevent the pilot from lighting.I take it that you have an older boiler as you give no indicaion as to model.Call them back for explanation.
