Vuaxhall repair cost estimate?

Hi folks,

looking for a rough cost for replacement of the engine head gasket.
It needs doing as there is oil leaking around the seal and the coolant is gone.

car details -

Vauxhall Astra
57 plate
90,000 miles
1.6 petrol engine

Any help would be much appreciated

Assuming the head isn't in need of replacement and no other damage a dealer will charge in the region of £500. How handy are you? It's not a difficult job on these, lots of bits to remove granted but basic tooling and a torque wrench (and preferably an angle gauge) will see you through. The cambelt isn't too difficult either but you do need the flywheel and cam locking tools.
