The coolant antifreeze is pink in colour.
Can one of you learned chaps recommend what I can add to the coolant for better freeze protection

Usually the VW antifreeze requirement is imprinted on the cap of the expansion bottle......G12 or G13 - pinkish or purple in colour.
Its life is around 6 years for anti corrosion, antifreeze properties longer.
The coolant concentration can be measured with the appropriate tester, and its recommended you use a 50% concentrate / water mix.

The pink colour tells you what type of anti-freeze it is.

That link confuses me more than it helps!

That'll be because they want you to buy their one.
