VW Polo 1998 gearbox/clutch problem

Hello, I am from France. I have a problem with the gearbox of my VW Polo 1998.

When I put on the first gear, the car will move like it is using the third gear and when I put on the second gear, it will move using the fourth gear.

Also, when I put on the reverse gear, the car does not reverse, it will move forward like it is using the third gear or maybe fourth.

The third, fourth and fifth gear works well. I don't know whether the left part of the gearbox is broken or there are problems with the clutch or any other problem. Do I need to change the whole gearbox (I hope no because of high cost) or there are any other solutions.

The Polo is noted for having a rubber (caoutchouc ) linkage so it could be an idea to get a garage to look at that first.
It could be a gearbox problem of course but let's isolate the easy things first!
