VW Polo 2002 power assist in steering suddenly failed

I have had it checked properly by a mechanic who says the the fitting will be £100. Sourced the part brand new next day delivery for £420 inc vat.

The number part is 6R0423156C

I would repair it too. Providing no major tin worm. You know the car really well and it's got a brand new MOT. Definitely worth the second chance. Otherwise you're jumping into the unknown with another used car, plus all the aggro of sourcing and viewing, etc. And have you seen the price of second hand cars these days?

2nd opinion was worth it then.

I think I'd have gone for 2nd hand, but still a good result

So, it's an electric pump then?

Could you not source the part, used, from a scrap vehicle, and fit it your self? £50 ought to cover it, that way..
I can see them on Ebay ranging from £60. Scrap is not ideal as you have no guarantee if it went the same way, as well as wasting money having it fitted. I can't fit it as you have to take the panel off. I think the quote to fit is reasonable.

I can understand the reason and the draw of new in that case
