VW POLO DOOR LOCK

Got trouble with a 2000 VW Polo drivers door lock, just wont lock or unlock, cant even press down the door lock lever inside, I have seen refurb kits on ebay for a few quid, how much of a job is it, am I better getting another lock and key from a breakers yard .
Any advice appreciated.

Ive only had experience with a non centrally locked Golf and the handle was an absolute nightmare, made out of monkey metal too.
Id replace the door lock and handle, keeping the original barrel if you can.....its worth having a good look at both bits but Id reckon the lock itself is a gonner.
