Hey everyone, I'm looking to run a ceiling fitting for a bulb from a wall socket or plug extension, it's so I can light a corner of one room which has plenty of plug sockets but no nearby light sources and a lamp isn't really an option due to aesthetics. I'm pretty much a newbie to electrics but I've got a few friends who are adequate at wiring and so forth I'm just not sure how to do it. Any help you be greatly appreciated!
Thanks, James

You could run it to a plug with a 3A fuse fitted, but do you really want a wire running down the wall?

Is the fitting metal?
If so it will need to be grounded properly.
Does it have any kind of strain relief for a cable?
If not it could be easily pulled out and cause a fire or worse.

It may just be better to get someone to fit it in the wall correctly to the lighting ring or find a product that is built to do the job on the mains like below and make it work for you without handling any electrics.
