I have started stripping the wall paper in my bedroom to find the plaster board has been papered straight onto. The house was build in the late 50's, was this standard practise back then to put up plaster board, fill the gaps then paper over the top. When the wall paper is stripped would it be ok to put a skim coat over the plaster board leave to dry then paint, or use lining paper the paint? Which would give the better finish.

Cheers

You can pva the wall and skim over it make sure you scrim all the joints.Leave to dry for 10 days before you paint it. :) S/S

Cheers for you reply, would it be possible instead of stripping the walls to score the paper quite heavily, then pva then skim?

No. You will have to remove the paper because if you skim over paper it will lift and the plaster will fall off. Then you will have to start all over again. Do it once and do it right is the best way. :) S/S
