Hi is it necessary to prime a bare wall before wallpapering? I have stripped the walls but have been reading about skim primer mist etc.

If so will just diluted wallpaper paste do? Pva? Which is best.

Cheers.

Bare plaster should be sealed with a wallpaper size (wallpaper paste diluted to the manufacturers specifications). Previously papered bare walls (that have been stripped) don't always need sizing but it is good practice to apply a coat as it does no harm. Previously painted walls are generally fine without any further sizing. Avoid PVA at all costs, as it waterproofs the wall and stops the paste drying out at the correct rate.

Cheers mate. Was going to buy some PVA too today but looked at the price and thought I will get it tomorrow cheaper at B and Q. Now I will not bother Ill just give the walls a quick size with paste.

Always handy to apply a little paste to the wall before hanging the paper to give it a bit of slip. Depends on the wall really and how thirsty it is.
