We are getting an experienced decorator in next week to wallpaper our new living room walls and ceiling, and we have been in the house this week removing the old paper off the walls, which scraped off easy enough leaving the lining paper, which with a steamer we managed to get off no problem at all.

However when doing the ceiling i have been told by a 3rd party that it is better to leave the lining paper ON as the roof is not a normal plasterboard roof, it is like thin wooden boards (that sound right?) and as such will make it easier for the decorator to rewallaper (as we cant really do anything other than wallpaper this type of roof can we?).

Whats the best thing to do here? Any tips regarding dealing with this particular type of roof is much appreciated.

Then he should have spotted it and noted what the surface was.

It sounds similar to fibreboard..possibly hardboard, they used to use that in old places, especially panelled ceilings

The ony danger with leaving the existing paper on is that it may blow once he get the new stuff on.
