Warhammer Figure - Paint Removal

My son has overdone the black base coat on a few of his metal figures and as a result, the detail of those figures is not as clear as it should be. Can anyone suggest a method of removing the paint so that he could start again? There is no information on the spray can as to the type of paint it is.

Gentle brushing on of thinners?

Ask one of the games workshop's what to do, they will have come across this many times.

I'd ask my kids but they are out.

Thanks for your reply but its not as simple as it first seemed. The figures were black undercoated, then painted using GW's water-based paints and then sprayed black again because he (my son), didn't like the finished result. Will try GW anyway.
