Warning on "touch me" lamps

I woke up early the other morning (0445) and was just being dozy, when both the bedside lamps came on, they flickered a bit (20 seconds ?) then went out. Later I found out that the local village was having some mains power line maintenance. Later in the day My wife went upstairs and they were on permanently.
They are silver and marked " touch me", I think they came from "Homebase"
As these are in our weekend cottage, we will have to unplug them when we leave!!

They do not seem very reliable, much like the motion detecting outside lamps. I changed a lamp above my garage door about 4 times before I gave up and wired it to be just on or off. With the bedside lamps you can fit inline switches in the cables if you want to avoid the expense of new lamps.
