Warped Sink - what should I do?

Hi guys,

I have a Franke Basis BFG 6551 Fragranite sink that is warped slightly. The gap created by the warp is 3mm at its biggest.

Please see the attached picture.

I previously bought the same sink in white last month (didnt like the colour) and that never had a warp.

I can push the warp out with my hand when i press down on the sink. However the sink clips aren't suitable for the cupboards and worktop, so I was hoping to get away with just silicone. The clips have pre moulded holes in the base of the sink, and the clip where the warp is, is right over the worktop join connector, so I certainly can't fit that one.

What do you guys think? Is this kind of warp acceptable? Will just silicone hold it flat?

Thanks

Silicone would probably hold it, silicone adhesive would definitely hold it, the question is, is that amount of warp acceptable to you. Usually there is a bit of give and take with these moulded sinks, especially if the clips would normally draw it down flat. So it's really whether you are happy to go with it or it goes back.

Just use a bit of weight on it until the silicone sets.

Once confirmed that it is indeed warped, I might be tempted to ask for a replacement.

i actually didnt know there was such a thing as silicone adhesive. My brother has just been round and said exactly the same thing. He uses evostik sticks like ****. What would you recommend?

Sticks Like XXXX is a ms polymer. They are similar to silicone in that they are fairly flexible (not quite as flexible as silicone, but not far off).

Regular silicone can be used as an adhesive as well as a sealant.

I would go with silicone, it is easier to "tool". I often use MS polymers when painting the exteriors of customers' homes because it can (unlike silicone) be over painted (provided it is first primed with waterbased paint).

Silicone sealant cures more like a pretty flexible, soft rubber with a fair amount of give and less mechanical grip. Silicone adhesive cures much firmer and is more like a stiff rubber, it's grab and movement properties are also much firmer hence why it's classed as an adhesive rather than a sealant (it does act as a sealant as well of course)

EVO's Stick like $hit or Wet grab is a polymer adhesive (not sealant) and is very good, I use wet grab on cast connections where couplers would not work and it's hasn't failed me yet. Use gloves as it's a mare to get off and clean any excess straight away. If it was me, I'd use an adhesive to lock it down. Don't use it to fillet seal the sink edge, just use it to secure it down. Clean any excess tight to the edge with sprits and once cured then run around the edge of the sink with some normal sanitary silicone sealant, as that will be much easier to cut out and replace when, invariably, it'll need redone.

What about these hybrid sealants like souldall fix all sealant and adhesive, evostik the dogs or the no nonsense X8? Are they any good?

Look up CT1 at Toolstation.I've not used it but it has excellent reviews.

I use Fix All producs, very good stuff. The High Tack or Turbo versions are probably best for your needs

Towel in the sink then load it up with bricks while the adhesive sets?

I have used it as a sealant where timber sills meet masonry sills. It is a lot thicker than the likes of CT1 though, and when cured, more rigid. But yeah, its "grab" qualities are superior to the likes of regular CT1.
