I have a hotpoint wdl540 washer dryer was going for about 5 minutes and has tripped the electrics so tried a different socket started again started filling with water and drum started to rotate and tripped the electrics again, any ideas would be helpful

If you mean the RCD then you are probably loosing supply to the whole house rather than just the sockets. If that is the case then you have a leakage to earth from one or more of the machines components. The most common one is the water heating element & you can prove this by disconnecting & insulating the wires & see if it still trips. If not you may need to try other components, obviously it will not go through a cycle but it should not cause the RCD to trip.
