can someone tell me how to replace a washer in my kitchen sink; am told its easy; how do I get the tap off and do I have to turn off the water at the main?

they are all slightly different

1 prise the cap off the top

2 undo the screw underneath

3 TURN WATER OFF and open tap

4 remove the head (pull up)

5 apply a spanner to the hexagonal brass bit and undo while holding the spout to stop the tap turning

6 remove old washer and replace

7 stick your finger in the tap and feel the seat the washer sits on (should be smooth)

8 reverse the above

these are general hint's

what sort of tap is it :?:

Just a run of the mill round chrome thing that's impossible to grip with wet hands.

Yep that sounds like a tap
