It`s Hotpoint that could be useful for when it catches fire!! Self extinguishing washing machine........

I did a further test on it.. so the jets fire in the detergent drawer, and there's a hole where the water + washing powder drains into the main drum. That 'hole' gets water coming back up and it starts leaking after about a minute of the jets firing.. so looks like there's a blockage down the path of that hole.

Need to figure out how to clear that hole... maybe I'll stick a rod down it. Probably congested with washing powder build up

Do you have too high a water pressure? You used to be able to buy plastic restrictors, to reduce the flow to the machine, a plastic disc which fitted between the tap and the cold water hose. You could achieve the same effect by partially closing the tap, to limit the flow.

it's about 6 years old and the problem's only just started occurring. I reckon the pipe that connects the soap drawer to the main drum is blocked. Might have to take the top off, disconnect the pipe and clean it - will keep you posted

well that didn't take long - quite easy to take the top off, removed the pipe that connected the dispenser tray to the drum... and there was a sock in it.

No idea how it got there. Best guess is one of the kids put the sock in the dispenser drawer and it worked it's way down and got lodged in the pipe. it was a kids sock!

One of our's 'posted' her socks into the slot along the top of our living room gas fire. The fire wasn't used very often, but when it got hot, you can imagine the smell of burning socks. Luckily, not lasting damage and no actual flames.
