Magnet failure - can anyone advise please The magnet on the panel door (integrated washing machine) has stopped connecting to the magnet on the washing machine (NEFF under two years old) I bought and replaced the magnets - tested both magnets for their magnetism all of which are magnetic and yet the door still refuses to engage the magnets to close magnetically. It is a mystery. Can anyone advise pleae and thanks

loosen the screws as much as you can (without the magnet falling off) see if that works. Alternatively, put a couple of 2p pieces on the magnet and see if it meets the machine.

The door might simply be out of alignment (which can be adjusted).

Thank you so much -for such quick and useful advice. I tried the 2p pieces - I can get one to stick to the magnet on the washing machine side but not the door magnets (presumably a polarity issue) - loosening the door magnets doesn't solve the issue either so I'm thinking the door alignment is the issue but I'm not confident in adjusting this

but not the door magnets (presumably a polarity issue)

Or perhaps they are not magnets, just simply steel, intended to connect to the magnet?

You could stick a bit of putty, bluetack or similar, to the magnet, close the door, and get an impression in the putty, as to how far apart the are.

That reads as though something is preventing the door closing completely, so check the door hinges or for anything that could be preventing full closure.

There is no magnet on the door it’s simply ferrous metal. If it’s not working it’s misaligned. Put a short screw ( point out) on the magnet and close the door it will mark where the plate should be.

Thank you everyone so far for your lovely help. I think I have cracked the reason but not the answer
I think I've found the problem - I loosened the screws on the magnet attached to the door and stuffed some paper raising the magnet nearly a cm from the door - and by presto it caught magnetically so the magnet is therefore now strangely too far away when properly attached - so this must be

a) door alignment (although it looks ok to an amateur eye)
b) so how do i fix the door alignment please
thanks again to everyone

If you push the door shut, where the magnet is located, does it then make contact with the magnet and spring back, or when pushed shut, does it then align, with other doors?

Hi

2nd picture with magnet fully loosened will catch washing machine but clearly not a satisfactory solution at all.
1st picture is hinge - all 4 screws are tightened to the max it seems

in answer to Harry's question - it does not exactly spring back but it simply does not connect magnetically and rest loose of the contact

Ah, now a photo has been aired, I'd hazard a guess that the machine has moved slightly from its mountings in the cabinet carcase and original position, or, the hinges need a good overhaul/checking for wear and replaced after lubricating. Nothing in this life lasts forever including cabinet hinges which will require adjustments as they wear over time.

A photo of the WM catch would be helpful . You could always replace the current magnet with a magnetic touch latch .
