Hi all, please help....i need to run the waste from a washing machine through the wall directly behind the appliance but then the nearest gulley for it to run to is approx. 6m away. What kind of trap would be best and positioned where, also can the flexible hose from machine be connected into a 40mm pipe which will then run down to gulley?

Use a w/m standpipe.

fit this standpipe near the machine the w/m waste go's into the top.
and your run to the drain connects to the trap.

I always fit these on top of the standpipe.
stops the pipe every falling out, also the standpipe overflowing.

thanks again, because of the 6m to run the waste can the upstand be cut down to allow the sufficient fall required?

Beat me to it. Try and keep the fall as low as possible to avoid syphonage of the trap (stops smell coming back up) If no room behind WM can it be put into cupboard at the side? If you have to cut the standpipe down, then as least as possible, a WM discharges quite forcefully. Putting outside a no no.
