Could it be . . .
1. Due to increase in number of combi boilers in use, a cold feed is prefered as, for example, if the boiler needs to supply hot water to the washing machine it starves the CH or other taps.
2. It is cheaper to have one valve instead of two.
3. Water is heated up to desired temp within machine - there may be a chance of water coming in too hot for program chosen with a hot feed, especially from a combi.
The answer is close to Number 3 as mentioned in the previous post.
A washing m/c will fill with hot and cold at 40 and below, above 40 it fills with hot only.
This is because it is supposed to be quicker filling with both valves open than just the one. Also it it less time to heat the water to the desired temp if it is already warm to start with.
Hot water also dissolves the soap powder in the soap drawer quicker.
but as for just 1 valve don't see the point because it will fill with cold and take longer to heat up.
