Washing-up liquid foam makes dishwasher stop

I accidentally put a dish with normal washing-up liquid in it in my dishwasher (Whirlpool). half-way through the cycle the dishwasher stopped. Opening the door, there was a lot of foam inside the dishwasher - tried to clean as much of it as possible, but the dishwasher still won't start - three flashes and does not respond to pressing the start button.
Help please.

3 flashes is a heat related problem.
However, it's probably got a flooded base. Tip it back about 45 degrees to drain the base and try it again.
You'll need a few towels around the back of it to soak up the water if any comes out.
