Water based gloss, which one?

Which Gloss paint is good nowadays?

I have a lot of previously painted skirting, doors & architrave to paint, don't know whether oil or water based paint has been used before though.

Atm looking at Johnstone's aqua guard & undercoat, seems to be getting good feedback.

Is it a matter of just rubbing previous surface down to give it a key & then 1 coat undercoat & 2 coats of topcoat. Many thanks

Rub with meths to test gloss.
If any comes off it's waterbased on there.

As for which one.. Loads on the market so depends on budget and where you are applying.
£60 HVLP is simple to use and you can spray it.
Brush or roller?
Going to get skin oil on with handrails?
I can tell you which is though to be the best but it's not cheap.

Maybe crown fastflow would work for you as a waterbased alkyd...

I used Johnstones aqua gloss as a middle or the road gloss. Don't level so well as some though but goes through HVLP nice.
Splash of water sometimes helps the flow

Thinking ahead, i have a external wall to paint this year & possibly the lounge & dining room too, so a sprayer would be handy.

I don't do cheap paints, but don't do very expensive ones either. Even though everything seems to be expensive nowadays

HVLP is only good for woodwork. I've always had to open mine (different model) up to let paint flood out on doors or it can look patchy, but great on spindles and skirting.
Be careful outside as paint spray travels! Be on cars ect...
Seems the Erbauer EPS800 800W is a good buy at the moment..

I was talking to a painter that used aqua guard gloss. It's thicker and a bit more sticky than aqua gloss. He liked it though
