Recently had a person come round who looked at the water heater, the "economy 7" bottom half has not worked for years.

He found out what it was the element popped out because of overload, he put it back in and seems to work it hasnt tripped the fuse box like before, BUT the water is only a degree above cold, its not hot or even warm.

How do I check or change the temperature on it.

The top half works, but he said its best to use the bottom one only as cheaper to use.

thanks

The lower heater will only work if all the supply and control equipment is still in place and working - given that it "hasn't worked for years" it's worth checking that you still have the power on and any time clocks correctly set.

Do you have anything else on low rate electrical feeds - storage heaters etc?

I an not very knowledgeable on these things when the bottom one stopped working I didnt know it was Economy 7, I thought it was just a 2nd tank of the above one, so I been using the top one.

Because in the past the top one stopped working the element had gone, it took over 2 months to get the housing association to fix it with promised days coming and noone turned up etc, plus i work so was fed up of taking days off when none turned up! So never bothered getting the bottom one looked at. Been using the top one.

But I thought I would mention it as there a electrical test visit, he said I should be using the bottom one as cheaper to run.

To test it I turned off the top switch, but like I say its not freezing but not hot, slightly warm but not really, if you know what I mean, doesnt get hotter when running like the top tank did lol

He pushed something back in, Im guessing the element, he said it popped forward because of an overload?? I wasn't looking when he did it.

I have storage wall heaters, all those work ok, not on at the moment as the weather is still warm. The 2 larger wall heaters in the living room and landing they run on economy 7 when a certain switch is on, I have no other timers.

Is that scorch marks on the top heater ? If it is it could be burnt out, get it checked again. (Thats if it is scorching).

The economy 7 only comes on over night, when was the "button" reset on the lower element ?

That is ok, it is when the top element had to be replaced one year, they had to blowtorch it or something it get it out, I remember that.

The bottom off/on switch is on.
