water pipes "humming"

When I run my hot water (for a bath) the pipes hum a lot, when I switch the cold on they dont hum as much.

This has just started (property about 10 years old) and I have had no work done on the house, could this be the float valve in the cistern in the roof acting up?

Any constructive ideas would be most welcome.

What kind of system do you have?
Combi? system? vented/unvented?
Does it do it on all taps?
