Water

A couple of years ago a group of scientists declared that whilst 'Global Warming' was actually happening 'Global Cooling' was taking place at the same time.
Puzzled?
Their explanation was this.
The earth spins on its axis which is slightly off centre. (Hence, North and True North are actually different).
With the axis being slightly off centre this causes the earth to 'wobble' on its axis.
This 'wobble' results in the Northern hemisphere being tilted towards the sun for a few hundred years and so helping to melt the polar ice cap. This wobble eventually also moves the Northern hemisphere away from the sun over time causing the Southern hemisphere to be nearer the sun and in doing so reverses the effect in the north. i.e. the Northern hemisphere gets colder whilst the Southern gets warmer.
This is the natural cycle of the planet and there is nothing that mankind can do to stop it. Its called Nature. It may wipe out civilisation as we know it.
Taking into account that some cave drawings seem to show alien lifeforms and space craft who is to say this isn't what will happen in future?

The mathematics of the earth's wobble are well known and well documented and as such can be rules out as the reason that the earth is warming.
Cave drawing 'seem' to show what we interpret as space visitors, but that's our problem - not theirs.

Well this has been an interesting example of hijacking a thread. The OP was regarding storing heavy rain in reservoirs and turned out to be the usual climate chaqnge argument.

The OP, you, did mention Climate change in his first post!

Perhaps storing water in reservoirs is not the answer..due to the impact on having to build new reseroirs..

Whay not have companies storing water in something similar to these..

Here in Yorkshire our reservoirs are running off all the time it would surely be no problem to capture this surplus into tanks like these and create a central storage area of these tanks for use in droughts , Much better than taking away the water from the reservoirs themselves leaving everyone short.
I can even see my business idea growing as we speak..

Government contract to centrally store x amount of gallons of water in these containers in an ongoing replenishment basis.

who wants to come into business with me.

We will need.
x amount of these tanks
2 x forklifts
1 x flatbed
1 x storage facility.. (fenced and gated) possibly security manned in times of drought.

No expert but that water can only be stored for a certain amount of time and needs treatment for extended periods. Rainwater is not as clean as some think and that is why the above is needed.
So not really viable otherwise it would be used in other countries extensively.

I did mention ongoing replenishment basis ie tagged and dated replaced as necessary. Yes I am sure that each 1000ltr tank would need the addition of some antibacterial or sterilising tablet. No doubt you would also have to keep the water indoors to prevent the tanks heating and being a potential legionella risk. Shade would also be required to prevent algae etc but allowing for all the above I personally am convinced that a large old shed currently lying unused in the midlands somewhere perhaps an ex motor industry warehouse would be a sensible solution to what is becoming a reccuring problem. The water could even be sold as neccessary for industrial process at what could be a cheaper solution than using water through the filtered beds..

Rain water as it happens CAN be used directly to provide for the water supplies. We have reservoirs where it is illegal to swim , fish or boat because the water goes directly into the public supply without being treated. (gotta love the fish poo though..)

Luv the idea, Skyboy, I have 3 of the IBC tanks plus 6 normal water butts. Rainwater is used to flush the toilets and water the garden. Saves a lot on the water bill; metered supply and in SouthWest with the highest water charges in the country.

Long period of dry weather - climate change pundits warn of terrible shortage of water.

Long period of heavy rain - climate change pundits warn of severe flooding

Climate change pundits say we must stop using our cars or put up with severe weather.

They never seem to suggest that building reservoirs to store the excess water would prevent flooding and provide water for dry periods, and create much needed jobs.

god you don't half talk a load of unmitigated ****** sometimes. i won't even bother pointing out ur nonsense, it's so assisning

oh bugger, wrong quote.

There must be some calculations that show how much sea levels would rise if joe went swimming with his huge brain (and thus head) displacing so much sea water :D
