waterproofer reacting with lime

Float and set job, using integral waterproofer reacting with old lime on brickwork causing it to suck in straght away regardless of damping walls, then blowing in places when drying. I could remove the addy but would rather waterproof due to previous damp pro s and the gaffer insists on it even though he knows nothing about the trade. Any alternative? Sbr?

Have you tried giving it a tight scratch coat first, or are you trying to get it all in one ?

Do you have anything else in the mix apart from the w/p?

ie is it just 4:1 with w/p

If you have to seal up the walls an SBR slurry will do the job but it's messy work and a bit extreme - get back on the qs above first

waterproofer reacting with the old lime causing it to suck in? and then blow? i think your not controling the suction properly , either damp it down more till it dont suck or add a weak mix of pva say 7-1 to help control it, also if you think your having trouble with the old morter on the joints, rake the bed joints back by 10mm to get a better key your supposed to rake them out anyway
