I've just finished staining a couple of shelves a dark walnut colour. The colour is what I want but the finish is maybe not as smooth as I'd hoped. Is there a wax product I can use that will add a smoother finish but without changing the colour of the shelves?

assuming the stain is fully dried any clear furniture wax will not affect the colour. ideally you should have got it smooth before the staining, but if it took evenly then it must not be too bad. A very fine grit 320etc lightly rubbed on should smooth a little without taking out the colour. Try a test peice.

A few coats of wax will smooth it a bit but make sure you let the wax fully dry and buff it well.
