I've seen some WC pan connectors which have an integral boss vent, can this be used to vent to the outside or is it for connecting an internal AAV or something else.

Got a link, just to see which one you mean?

Normally used for connecting a basin into, hence why it is 32mm (1¼"), but I suppose it could be vented to the outside or an AAV. Not how how effective it would be to be honest,

I was thinking of using it to vent toilet. All the bungalows down our road had their toilets fitted without a vent stack in the 1970s.

I think that it is being marketed as for connecting to an open air vent. Sometimes needed at the end of a long drain run.

Although the most common use would be to connect a basin vent. But as that is questionably allowable under the water regulations I suspect they do not openly advertise it as such.

Won't do any harm, worth trying

So why are you suddenly wanting to fit a vent after so many years?

Normally only needed on a very long drain run or when two toilets are fitted.

Sorry missed the last 3 replies, didn't get any notifications to those replies for some reason. I was thinking of fitting a vent because we were having some sewer smells in the bathroom even though we have 2 AAV fitted. Cleaned everything out but occasionally still getting the smell. I thought the toilet had to connect to a 4 inch stack for venting which I couldn't fit in our bathroom now but then saw these pan connectors with vent and it looks like I could make that work with the smaller pipe if allowable.

Sounds feasible then. I would be able to route that size pipe through wall behind pan into kitchen behind the cabinets and then up through the kitchen ceiling, across the loft above kitchen and out through external wall.

You mention smells, when you get them is the WC trap actually empty of most of the water?

I'm sure It's not emptied but I will use my inspection camera next time it happens to double check.

Also do you think if I use the vent on the pan connector and route that outside that I could get rid of the sink AAV?
