I’ve installed a few of these now and they tend to have a slight built-in up-stand (plastic usually) around the drain. Why is this ??

Surely the whole point of these formers is to both help with the slope but ALSO to ensure that any water that does make it through a cracked tile or failed floor grout then just runs down in to the drain.

I’ve installed a few brands now and I cannot file the life of me understand why they all have this slight upstand around the drain - like a castle wall design.

what am I missing ?

I think it's a rollover from when these slopes used to be formed from screed.

Other brands have this element flat and projecting under the front membrane.

Ah. That makes sense.

NOTE: For those not familiar with what I’m on about I’ve tried to attach a picture of one I fitted last year.
