I’ve just finished up fixing an interior vent cover to the front wall and was a bit surprised by what I found when drilling. I picked up some yellow plugs with 35mm screws. I’d drilled probably 30mm in to the wall and suddenly broke through in to some sort of void. Our survey was certain the house was a solid wall (1920s/30s construction) and I wouldn’t have expected the inner leaf to be so thin anyway. I’m fairly sure the walls have all been dot and dabbed but I’ve given it a tap and it definitely sounds solid where I’ve drilled, so likely drilling in to a dab anyway. The only other thing I can think of is the construction being slightly different around the vent? Any ideas?
