What can I size walls with

By a packet of wallpaper paste and mix some size up as per the instructions on the packet. Are they bare or newly plastered walls? If they have had paper on them before, no need to size them.
Plastered walls. Would you know what brand paste can be used for size as solvite says you cannot.
I’ve always used a thinned down mixture of solvite.
