what do i use to protect cedar wood fence outside?

hi
i have just installed a large galvanised gate and i am panneling all uprights with 75mm cedar plate strips. i would like to protect iit so as it kept its original characteristics.any advice on what product would be greatly appreciated.

Try cedar oil,or red cedar creosote.
