Hi, I will run out of finishing plaster but I only have a few small patches that need skimming so do not really want to buy a new bag as they only seem to come in 25kg. What could I use instead it will mostly be unseen as it will be behind a toilet and sink but some will still be visible. I have bonding plaster and powder interior filler would either of these be any use?

Many thanks.

I wouldn't use bonding or interior filler for skimming. Use multi finish,,,, i know you'll have some left over if you buy a 25kg bag,,, but it's only around £4.50. Go get another bag,,,, use the right stuff.

Roughcaster.

Personally for the ~£4-5 for a bag of multi, would go that route. Some of it will be visible as you say, so it would bug me if it was messy.

If you choose to use one of the options you presented, it would probably have to be the filler. Bonding alone I don't imagine you would get particularly flat.

No probs N/Bee. How's things,, ok.

Things ok here, even tho holiday season over now. Shame.
Hope all good with you.

Though I confess, as a result I've not done any plastering for a month or so - and am now missing it!

Is there something BG put in the mix to hook you?

hello chaps! :-)

have to say ladym i agree with these two, you CAN get a smaller bag of 'finishing plaster' from places like B&Q but it's half the size for almost the same price as a bag of multi (never quite understood that pricing policy) you may as well pay the extra 50p-£1 and make sure you have enough, you'll kick yourself if you run out.

and if you have any left it can be dug into the garden :D ...........supposed to be good for the soil.......so i heard....... :? ..........on this forum...

well i have to say i've never dug any in but do tip plenty into my flower beds when i get home each day and the plants don't complain, soils kinda hard to dig over though

I guess i'll have to bite the bullet and buy some more. Any tips on skimming for a novice. Is it best to er on the dry or wet side when mixing.
