What is this in my loft???

Can anyone help to identify what this is that I have found in my eaves space and what to do about it??

It is where water vapour has condensed on the roof elements and caused mould. Very common.

Hi, Thanks for your reply. When we purchased the property we did have old bitumen style non breathable felt, which two years ago we had breathable felt installed and soffit vents to allow for ventilation etc... I don't remember seeing this then but at the time this wasn't something I was looking for. Many Thanks

Sorry to drag this back up, but will mould on roof timbers fix itself, if the cause of the damp is fixed and ventilation improved? Or is it a case of fixing those things AND killing the mould off somehow?
