What is this pipe for?

Hi,

Recently moved into a 40s bungalow. There is an exterior metal pipe which comes out of the ground, up the side of the wall, takes a 90degree turn, then ends in front of the kitchen window with a spigot. See attached photo (sorry for quality).

I want to remove it, but any ideas what it was originally for?

Cold water comes in from the other side of the house, so don’t think it’s for water supply. Could it have been a drain for something? Maybe was connected to overflow from old water tank in loft?

To me it’s baffling…

Thanks!

Sorry, I don't know what it is.
But, does the pipe diameter change here?Screenshot_20230206-171320_Chrome.jpg
Could the original pipe have turned and connected here?

Probably capped off, when the window was replaced.

...and I'm guessing the room is the bathroom - if that is an electric toothbrush in the window and the white splodge in the ivy is a diagonal branch, leading to the soil sack :)

Odd, is the window original? Cannot see it being water, my first thought would be gas.
Not original, not sure when it went in though!

I don’t think it gets thinner, will check tomorrow though.

Good spot with that plastic thing above window…maybe something to do with it.

Haha, the toothbrush is a red herring! It must have been charging in kitchen as we don’t have shaver socket in the bathroom!

There is old metal electrical conduit throughout the house, could it be an old outdoor electrical conduit?

If that's the bathroom window the pipe might have been the supply pipe for an old gas geyser (water heater).

Attached photos of the spigot from kitchen window.

The little white thing up at the top of the window, I removed - it’s interesting… it appears to be a ceramic hose holder/clip. Was just screwed into the brick. Could a rubber gas pipe have been clipped to this to feed a gas geyser?

I also suspect that the kitchen was extended into the old bathroom (where the window is) with a new one relocated on the other side of the room with a partition wall.

I haven't found a good match yet, but I suspect if it is porceline, it may be an insulator for a telephone or power line?

The pipe looks like threaded steel electrical conduit, so......maybe leading to an old earthing rod which might have been added ad hoc; routing through the old wooden window frame after the place was built?

Have you dug around the bottom of the pipe to see where it goes ?
