Makes more sense to have taller windows also with little side ones, rather than Velux on the sloping roof. Is it probably just timber frame with a rubber or fibreglass roof added? Or is it metal, like big flashing strips?
 
Could that be noisy in a storm?
 
I've been in a house in Cambridge with a similar roof during a storm and it didn't seem excessively noisy.
 
Probably zinc, though you can get epdm roofing with an add on profile to mimic zinc, though it only mimics it in appearance, nothing else.
 
My initial thought was a single ply membrane like Sarnafil with fake upstand seams. Would be a lot cheaper than zinc.

I quite like the roof configuration not sure it works on that house though.
 
I would say single ply also but it could be zinc or a standing seam steel roof.
Have a look metal roofs they have come on a long way.
