I need to fill my cavity to 225mm below DPC.

What ratio is normally used and is it ok to use ballast for this or is it normally all separate (i.e for bigger stones etc..).

Thanks

The oldun is probably right but for all practical purposes we would sling whatever mortar or concrete remnants were at hand down the cavity and tamp it with a stick.

Wet, semi-dry whatever. Just fill the cavity when the beds are reasonably set.
