What paint for lime plaster?

Hi all,
I have a small cob cottage which has been re-plastered using lime plaster. Do I need to use breathable paint? (I presume I do so moisture doesnt get trapped).
I dont have the budget for Farrow & Ball. Are there cheap alternatives?

We used limewash - thinned down sieved lime plaster - you have to put it on very thin and use a number of coats (I think we ended up with 5), but cheap and effective. There's also lots of good info on Mike Wye's website: https://www.mikewye.co.uk/product-category/paints-oils-waxes/
