Hello guys,

New house and starting to poke around.

In the airing cupboard is the shower pump fed from the hot water cylinder.

The hot supply tees of the main outlet pipe from the cylinder so I guess the cylinder is not fitted with a shower attachment, so, When first turning on the shower the air is sucked out of the tank and heads towards the shower.

Just before the shower mixer on the hot supply is an AAV I think.

Should the black screw be tight or opened a little?

Is it really necessary as the air goes through the pump anyway so seems a bit pointless as it won't prevent pump cavitation.

Thanks

You'd be best off re-piping the pump correctly using a warix flange, for example, getting rid of the aav in the process.
You could do this yourself if you're a bit handy.
For the record the black screw should be loose on the aav.

It would appear to be a fairly quick fix.
Make sure the cold feed to the pump is correctly (safely) located in the cold tank while you're at it.
