Please can you help folks ??

I am currently completing a house project in a date farm in Siwa oasis, Egypt. As part of the work the local electricity supplier is prepared to supply electricity to the edge of the garden. Unfortunately the house is 250m from the edge of the garden, so we will have to run a permanent cable over this distance.
In the absence of highly skilled technicians I am looking to cost up this option (prior to full installation by an imported & pricey technician).
Please can i have advice on the spec of cable required to run from the edge of the farm to the house itself.

Voltage is 220v, power requred is 3000w, and the distance is 250m.

Thank you

I'm confused here. The electrician/technician shouldn't charge for the quote? Surely you would speak to a few and get a written quote from each with what was required? Otherwise you could have differing quotes but based on what each electrician/technician thought was the best way to supply power.

3kW is an incredibly small supply for a house. I appreciate in Egypt the needs will be different from the UK but a standard kettle can draw upto 13A (3000W). I assume you require only lighting and literally one or two sockets outlets?

If 3kW is to be supplied then the next problem will be the volt drop over such an enormous distance. I'm not sure what Egyptian wiring regs state but in the UK to be able to supply a 3kW load over that distance (assuming lighting was to be installed) would require 25mm² SWA. In Egypt you may be able to use split concentric cable. But you may not!

The other thing to bear in mind is that you need to make sure you get the supply size right now. Because the last thing you want to do is dig a trench over 250m and fill it in, only to then find out that your supply cable is too small and you have to lay another! Also you need to make sure you are aware of any detrimental influences to the cable. How deep will the cable be buried? How hot will it the ground get? Other issues may derate your cable further. Also what type of earthing is required/supplied by the distributor? Will you require 3 core cable or something else?

It would be a very good idea to speak to a specialist on this subject, I think. ;)

EDIT: I've just noticed the title states the cable must go 300m not 250m. In the UK that would require 35mm² SWA. Cost to you for that length of cable before paying anyone anything = £2330. All just to boil a kettle...
