Remember the span is from the edge of the supporting walls and not the length of the joist, depending on how you are looking at it. Just in case the joist is sitting on 500mm thick sandstone walls that cuts the effective span to 4M

Yes, as that's the edge of the loading on the joist. The span is measure from one edge to the other edge
