Hey,
Found this on google thought I'd see what you guys think. I brought a house for us to do up and live in I'm now in planning stage and thinking about heating and hot water the house did have a oil boiler that's now at the tip!. There is no mains gas so what are my options? And what would be the best system to go with?.
thanks Neil

Not enough information about you house and surroundings to give realistic advice

Staying with oil might the simplest and lowest cost to install but oil fuelled heating can be very costly to run.

If you have a source of low grade heat then an electrically powered heat pump might be the lowest cost to run after an expensive installation.

Low grade heat sources can be a ground coil if you have a large enough garden. An existing deep well can be a good and very low cost source of low grade heat.

Thanks for reply I'm off the gas network so no chance in gas. House will be 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom, kitchen, utility, in rural location very large gardens.
I want to find a happy medium between the cost to install and cost to run. Must be a system that I can install my self. Would idealy have a wood burner. What about electroflow or gas bottles ? Any one know costs of bio mass?

Go for an Oil/Boiler stove hybrid.
When installed correctly it will provide hot water and heat part of the house without any electric.
And you have back up when the oil boiler fails.
