Hi all, I've been browsing this site for a while and have decided to join as I need to pick some brains as mine no longer work. I bought my current house of my mum a few years ago and have now decided to start on getting the downstairs of the house done (most of the upstairs is now done after a 3 year slog during working silly hours). Its a 1950's semi.

I got so fed up with looking at the lounge/dining room carpet that I ventured a bit earlier on and lifted it up and low and behold I found this....

The pics aren't great but you do get to see whats underneath. Can ayone advice me what wood it is and how to bring it back to life as I quite like the idea of a wooden tiled floor instead of carpeting it. The blocks are 9" x 2 3/4 inches. I'm not sure how deep they are as I dont really inted pulling any up ....

Thank You Nath

Thanks, any suggestions on what to put on after it to try and keep it looking clean, also I've noticed there are gaps between some of the blocks, what would be the best way to deal with them.

I've just been reading through some other posts on here and the never-ending belt sander came up a few times as well. Would this be the right tool for the job as i can imagine it would be a pretty much messy job sanding down a 4.3m x 3.0m and 3.2m x 2.8m floor at the best of times

I'm sorry to be throwing so many questions at you ....

Rightio, I've managed to sand the floor down and just wondered whats the best way to seal it, bearing in mind I have a small dog (Westie) and the rooms give access to the patio door. I dont want to change the colour. I'd prefer just something to protect it from drink spills, wet dog footprints, etc ...

Any ideas? :?:
