Morning all,
I see alot of used upvc windows in good condition. Would the older windows be upto the current regs? I understand it has to have a certain U value, 20mm gap between the glass and 4mm thickness if I understand correctly.
I'm building an extension classed as a summer room (posh conservatory) and a porch.
Any advice is greatly appreciated
Thanks

Toughened glass.
Low E glazing.
Escape sahes (habitable rooms).
Trickle vents.

The thing is with out a bit of blurb from the manufacturer stating they are what they are Mr BCO may not accept them anyway. It will be trying to prove their U value that scuppers you probably.

Thanks for the replies. Yes as I can't guarantee the spec it's best to buy new and save the hassle. It's a shame as there's alot of good used stuff about

Out of interest can anyone recommend any good places online that sell upvc windows?

All I can suggest is find your local glass and window supplier, write a spec for whatever you need and go to the trade counter and get a price. Most "trade" suppliers are also open to the public. 2 years ago I bought 4 windows for my garden room - 3 were about 1200 x 900 with an opener, the 4th just a fixed window. High spec glazing. all in, £720. OK, prob a tad more now, but hardly worth the hassle of looking for s/h.

a shout out for http://lostockhallglass.co.uk/

Check round local suppliers for any mismeasures that they might be selling off if your sizes aren't critical.

For a porch or conservatory then safety glass where you need it will be all that's necessary. Check for small etched kitemark on glass.

I'd be very reluctant to fit used, but I've fitted loads of miss-measured/new unused windows and doors. Most have still had the stickers on the units for BCO to take little interest in, although as above I hope he will be checking the bi-folds for safety glass.

Best one I got was a brand new, fully glazed miss-measured (they forgot the structural bay poles), 3 sided bay which will replace this rotten old timber one - 99p on eBay.
