Hi,

I am repairing a fence by fitting a new concrete spur flush to the old wood pole that snapped underground last winter.

The pain is digging out soil around the rotten wood pole down 60cm; I managed to remove some of the old postcrete with Bolster and hammer, but there is some left about 40cm down the hole and cannot reach that far with a normal bolster.

I have used a Bosch SDS chisel rotary hammer that is also too short but is pretty much useless as it took forever to breakdown the postcrete whist the bolter was much quicker in the beginning (https://www.toolstop.co.uk/bosch-gbh-2000-sds-plus-rotary-hammer-240v/).

Now what's the best tool to break down the postcrete 40cm down the hole? I have been looking for long Bolsters, but the longest I can find is 18".

What's the best Alternative?
1. Bosch SDS Max Flat Chisel 25 x 600mm 55859 to use with SDS hammer (the short chisel wasn't effective as I said)
2. Roughneck Cold Chisel With Grip 18" 90278 £13.9 too short
3. Roughneck Digging Bar 1750mm (69") 48155 £49 - not sure I can hammer its head?

Many Thanks!

You can. Just they are long, so you will need to reach up or stand in something with someone else brave enough to hold the bar. Usually you use it by lifting up and dropping down to chop/break up the concrete. There are other 'tommy bars' available which all work in the same way

Use a long digging bar, wickes do a good one. Grip it by tne shaft, if you hand is over the end you will feel it if it hits something that wont give way. Its fairly hard physical work if you're doing it for the first time.
