Hi

This is all new to me so be gentle please! Our flat roof on an extension is leaking during heavy rain, there is some pooling in areas and I think I can trace the source to these. I am however unsure of the specific type of repair required so am seekung help. Its clearly not felt but im unsure specificaaly what it is or how to seal it. If you check the images you can see where it seems the bigger gaps are so I figured these just need sealing somehow (its also here the pooling occurs). Any help / pointers appreciated.

Thanks

The pics show lead sheet but you need to post more pics showing the whole roof.

Thanks for the reply, I took some more this morning and did some research last night. Not sure how I overlooked it before but I found what looks to be some previous repairs and they are somewhat flakey. Its not where the pooling occurs but I guess that doesn't need to be the case. Here are the pics, the last 2 are just of the roof in general but I cannot see any cracks/splits other than where the old repair is.

I'm presuming at this stage that I need to undertake something like that which is illustrated here: http://www.fixmyroof.co.uk/videos-and-guides/bay-window-roof/lead-bay-roof/

...or not? Thanks for your help.

Well, i asked for a pic of the whole roof for a specific purpose but you've posted expanded details of the roof.

From what i can see, the roof has no falls or virtually none, and it appears to be sagging to the left. If any of your lead sheet is overlarge i cant tell.

You can certainly do what the excellent "fixmyroof.co.uk" guy says, and it will work as a temporary repair - for how long who knows?

However, the ponding will continue, and it might be causing capillary action on the lead rolls (aka wood core rolls)?

Thanks for the reply.

Its not possible for me to get all the roof in one shot but the last two pictures i posted were basically the whole roof, unless you need something else?

When you say the lead rolls, you mean the ridges that run across the roof where the sheets are overlapping... you think possibly the water could be running in there there?

Its a possibility. Carefully lift the overlapping lead and look for moisture going up and over the roll (the "ridges").

Water can enter in one place on a roof eg. the lead sheet splits, and show up much further away.

You have two lead sheets with splits in, if you are going to repair the roof yourself then I would recommend using flashband a 6" roll should do it.

OK great, thanks for your replies. I'm going to have a crack (no pun intended) at this repair myself. I just need to hunt down the exterior paint with acrylic fibres, seems that this stuff isn't sold in Homebase (the only local "normal" DIY store to me). There is a Travis and Perkins though so will try them.

Thanks again.
